Third Consecutive Peaceful Protest

January 17, 2008 : 3:35 PM
Live in L.A.? Help make a difference for puppies on Saturday

Two peaceful protests encouraging shoppers to adopt, not buy puppies have been extremely successful in spreading the message about puppy mills and pet stores. in response, Posh Puppy closed its doors when animal lovers were present outside its flashy storefront.

Let's help make the third time a charm! If you have a couple hours to spare for a very important cause this Saturday, please come out to join the fun.

What: Pet Store Protest hosted by Last Chance For Animals

When: Saturday January 19, 2008. Two shifts:first shift 11am-2pm, second shift 2pm-5pm

Where: Posh Puppy-9699 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA, 90212 (cross street is Roxbury, across from Neiman Marcus)

RSVP: Meghan McGill, cell # (805) 368-9280

Please RSVP so we know that we have both shifts covered. We will have a great presence if we are there all day. Volunteers can come to just one shift or both.

Too bad I can't make it, I'm going to help with the hoarder/abandoned farm animals in Lancaster all day. I was at the first protest and the turnout was amazing. On Tuesday, January 22nd, the City of West Hollywood is considering a resolution to oppose sales of puppy mill dogs. It's a great start to fight these evil businesses.
It's so insane, considering there are almost 200 abandoned dogs at the hoarder's place that need homes desperately and at the same time there are these stupid pet shops selling dogs for thousands of dollars. We simply have to put them out of business.

kendra, I couldn't have said it better myself (thanks!) janitza1, there are over 6,000 licensed commercial dog breeders (puppy mills) in the US, and maybe twice as many that operate without licenses. Puppy mills mass-produce puppies with the goal of selling as many as possible to lovestruck families who want a puppy.

The problem with commercial breeders is that the motive is profit above all else (hence the term "commercial"). Temperament, congenital defects, socialization, comfort, quality--all these things cost a lot of money and affect a breeder's bottom line. They can easily churn out lots of puppies that look okay when spruced up and put in a fancy store, and all too often, serious problems crop up long after the store's guarantee has expired.

I'd encourage you to browse the News section of this community for all kinds of situations around the country that animal lovers are trying to help with.

Thank you,

janitza1,
puppy mills are large scale dog breeding facilities that operate in such a manner where the dogs are forced to live in cruel conditions. The dogs who live in puppy mills are forced to breed every time they come into heat, they usually live in a small cage that's just big enough for them to stand, their puppies are taken away at a very early age, they receive little to no vet care, they get little to no exercise or socialization time.

Or you can go to the Humane Society of the United States, the ASPCA, or the PeTA websites. There's probably more info somewhere around here on Best Friends, too. I'd tell you more, but I have to run to a class now.

Many supportive thoughts from a Minnesotan who shares in your disgust with pet stores and puppy mills. The ONLY way to end this barbaric practice is to hit them in their pocketbooks. Imagine a national day of protest aimed at the puppy mill pigs and the pet store swine that support this practice. I have to believe that if all the various animal welfare/rescue groups were to launch a collective effort of protest, we can end the holocaust our best freinds are going thru. The sooner the better
