The results of a new statewide poll by SurveyUSA shows overwhelming support from voters, with Prop 2 commanding a 62-point lead: 72-10 (18 undecided). The poll was conducted on 9/25/08 for KABC-TV Los Angeles, KPIX-TV San Francisco, KGTV-TV San Diego, and KFSN-TV Fresno.
Proposition 2 is a state ballot initiative that will come before California voters in November. If enacted, it would prohibit cruel confinement of farm animals—confinement that prevents them from laying down, standing up, turning around or extending their limbs (with a few exceptions spelled out in the legislation).
The premise is that all animals deserve humane treatment, including those raised for food. A YES vote on Prop #2 will help protect animals from unacceptable abuse.
The Proposition is endorsed by the Center for Food Safety, the Consumer Federation of America, the Sierra Club, Clean Water Action, ASPCA, the Humane Society of the United States, the California Veterinary Medical Association, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, the Union of Concerned Scientists and the United Farm Workers, Cesar Chavez Foundation, Farm Sanctuary and dozens of other environmental, animal health, sustainable agriculture, public health and animal welfare organizations.
