Internships at Best Friends

Is an internship for you?

February 15, 2006 : 12:00 AM
A Best Friends Internship might be just the thing for you!
Do you love being with animals? Are you thinking of a career working with animals but not quite sure what? or want some hands on experience?
Our General Animal Care internships run for 6 weeks here at the sanctuary and we offer them a number of times a year. You need to be 20 years old (no upper age limit), have a desire and ability to work with the animals. Interns get to work in all animal areas including: dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and horses.
Some students get credit from their college for their internship.

Dates for 2009 - we are in the process of re-designing the internship program so only have the dates set for the Winter session. January 13th - February 21st. Deadline for this session is Friday November 7th, 2008. Keep checking or contact us at the address below for further information.

More information and application form can be found on the resources section of this community.

Are you a veterinary technician student currently enrolled in school? Best Friends now offers an internship for you.
If you are a 4th year veterinary student find out more about our externship program.

Hi,
I want to open a rescue similar to yours, but have it be predominantly for dogs. I like that you work with aggressive dogs rather than put them down like shelters would. I'm very interested in your internship program so I can gain experience and more knowledge, but I was curious about what all it includes. What all should I prepare for before trying to get an internship?

Hi Lin - we are open to working with all people who want to do an internship. The summer heat, altitude, hard physical work and sand can make our environment a challenge to anyone, but we are as flexible as we can be to meet individual needs. As you can see in the message below the dates are not yet set for 2009 so keep checking and contact: www.humane.ed@bestfriends.org if you have other questions. Thanks

My name is Lin Goodman and I have M.S. Would working with my disability help with therapy pets and disabled companions, get the animals exposed and adjusted to someone who has a disability help care for them?
I know it's a longshot, but I just had to ask. I would be able to work with all the animals you think I can, just at a slower pace.
Before I got sick I was a Vet Tech and have been involved in animal welfare and care ever since. I have a lot to offer and would love to give it a try, if you think it's at all possible. Please think it over and let me know. Thanks most sincerely.
Yours In Kindness With Compassion,
Lin Goodman
