Several Hundred Greyhounds Need Temporary Foster and Permanent Homes!
By Patricia Haddock, Best Friends NetworkPhil Ruffin, Jr., Director of Operations of Wichita Greyhound Park, recently announced that October 6, 2007 will be the final day of racing at this racetrack. An election held earlier in August had confirmed that no slot machines will be installed on the racetrack premises.
Without slot machines, racetracks nationwide are suffering declining attendance as more people become aware of the suffering the dogs endure, and the surplus breeding that results in euthanasia --or worse--for so many.
Race the Wind Greyhound Adoption, Inc. Is Coordinating AdoptionsRace the Wind Greyhound Adoption, Inc., a non-profit organization that has kept an office and kennel at the Wichita track, is the lead coordinator for all adoptions.
Any person or rescue group interested in fostering or adopting one of the greyhounds should contact Race the Wind at (316) 755-4000 extension 243 or visit their website at http:www.racethewind.org.

official announcementSeveral Hundred Dogs Will Need Temporary Foster and Permanent HomesRescuer kris10nchains@yahoo.com sends this report on August 30th:
The racetrack that is home to aprox 720 dogs is closing. Statistically only about 200 will go on to race elsewhere as Wichita is a lower quality race track, and the end of the line for many racing careers. There will be several hundred dogs needing temporary foster and permanent homes.
Contact Race the Wind or GPA for more info and if you can help.
