Scared Cat survives 35 days on a ship without food or water.
By Michele King, Best Friends NetworkHendersonville business owner Eric Congdon opened a cargo box, expecting to find only motorcycle gear that he ordered from Shanghai. To his surprise, a frightened cat had stowed away in the box, which left a port in China on April 3. The cat spent at least 35 days on the ship and miraculously survived.
Congdon said, "I saw something in the container move. I turned up the headlights on the fork lift to get a better look." He discovered the startled cat in the corner of the shipping crate.
Congdon is the owner of Olympia Moto Sports in Hendersonville. He called animal control after the cat would not let him approach her. His co-worker hopes to adopt the cat, which now answers to the name “China”. But first the cat has to be quarantined to make sure that she does not have rabies.
Congdon hopes that China will not have to be put down after her time in quarantine. "It would be a shame for the cat to die after it survived such an ordeal," he said.
