New Animal Cruelty Hotline for Brunswick County

April 30, 2008 : 3:57 PM
Coalition for Humane Treatment of Animals.

by Margarete O’Leary, CHTA

The Coalition for Humane Treatment of Animals (CHTA) announces the establishment of the Brunswick County Animal Cruelty Hotline at 910/253-0909. The number is a message center where residents may (1) report abandonment, neglect, abuse, or cruelty to animals; (2) solicit help with currently unresolved situations, or (3) solicit help where no other services or options are available to them. CHTA volunteers will check the message center daily.

CHTA reminds County residents that this hotline is not a substitute for calling local authorities first as follows: County residents should first call Brunswick County Animal Services at 754-8204 during business hours. For after-hour emergencies, County residents should call 911. Residents of cities (districts and municipalities) should first call their local Town Hall during business hours and, after hours, call their police or other designated department. If these services are not available, residents should call the CHTA Animal Cruelty Hotline.

DOG- AND COCKFIGHTING HOTLINE[b]

CHTA wishes to inform North Carolina residents that the Humane Society of the United States in Washington, DC, has established a hotline for reporting suspected or known dog- and cockfighting operations throughout the United States. If anyone suspects or knows about dog- or cockfighting anywhere in North Carolina, they may call the HSUS Dog- and Cockfighting Hotline at 202-452-1100. By calling the HSUS hotline (in addition to your local authorities), you’re helping track and locate dog- and cockfighters nationwide and capture them before they move from place to place. The HSUS is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of dog- and cockfighters. For more information, visit www.humanesociety.org/rewards.
