The Pet Connection Humane Society Has to Close it's Doors

July 5, 2006 : 12:00 AM
Unfortunately, the Pet Connection Humane Society in Bismarck, ND has been forced to close its doors effective July 17 due to non-support from the community.

We currently have 130+ cats, 50+ dogs, 2 rabbits, 3 ferrets, 1 iguana and several hamsters in the facility. We only have this short period of time to find homes for these animals.

Please visit website to see pics of these available pets.

All of our animals need to find homes..(Editor's note: Visit website: They have some wonderful, beautiful pets for adoption.)

We Need Help!

Please contact Wendy Artlip, a member of the Board of Directors, to discuss options. Wendy can be reached at 701-527-5620 (cell) or by e-mail at dextanker23@msn.com

We also have a 1 ½ yr. old female lab mix who has been paralyzed since birth. She and her brothers were abandoned at two days of age in a box at the gun city club in Bismarck.

She has a cart to get around in, but doesn’t like it. She wears a diaper and we have to wrap her hind legs. She gets around very quickly by scooting around like that.

Our situation is dire. We are a no-kill shelter who also houses the animal impound for the cities of Bismarck and Mandan. All of the animals at our shelter were rescued from the impound.

Sadly, we do not have any funds to transport these animals and we have to find no-kill shelters or individuals to take them.

.....one more thing.....anyone interested in all the hoopla behind this facility and its benefactor, go to the Bismarck Tribune online and search for Pet Connection. The comments section under each article will show how much the community HAS done, but we are tired of trying to bail out the owner, Dr. Jim Nelson. Dentists need to stick to dentistry, NOT building. (if you knew the guy, you'd understand. He has a pool & golf course in his yard, owns a plane, a grand house, a hunting lodge.....get the picture?) And now he is needing the communities help, because the current board cannot afford to run the facility due to HIS 'oversights'.

I live in Bismarck, and have supported the shelter for quite some time, ALONG WITH MANY OTHER RESIDENTS. To hear 'we have to close due to non-support from the community' is like a slap in the face. Wendy, how about a bit of TRUTH?? Like how the building was overbuilt in the 1st place, mainly as a 'showplace' for Dr. Nelson who was the grand creator of it. He definately was not thinking of doing up a functional, efficient building~~only an over-the-top, "show-off" type of building and decor. They spend $7000 PER MONTH ($2000 just for utilities, due to the grandeur of the building!) The other local shelter operates at a much lower cost, AND has <gasp!> volunteers. Not peeps on a payroll! So, do not even THINK our city has not supported you~~we have, but enough is enough

Monday is the 17th. I hope ways have been found to help these innocent beings, beloved of our Creator. I will never understand how people can be so unfeeling towards the other living beings on this planet.
