Who is Best Friends Animal Society?
Best Friends is working to bring about a time when homeless, unwanted animals are no longer being destroyed in shelters, and when every healthy companion animal can be guaranteed a good life in a caring home. Best Friends operates the largest no-kill companion animal sanctuary in the U.S., providing expert medical care, rehabilitation, and training to rescued animals from around the country.

Why Best Friends?
On any given day, Best Friends is home to about 2,000 dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, horses, pigs, goats, and other mammals and wildlife at its 33,000-acre sanctuary in southwestern Utah’s “Golden Circle.” Best Friends focuses on taking in animals that have been deemed unadoptable due to illness, age, behavioral problems, or special needs. Through rehabilitation and loving care, Best Friends is able to find homes for as many as 80% of these abandoned animals. Animals that are more difficult to find adoptive families for have a home at the sanctuary for as long as they need.

With its expertise and resources, Best Friends is frequently asked to take in abandoned dogs and puppies when authorities shut down local puppy mills or when local shelters are in danger of closing. Yet Best Friends is often forced to turn away dogs that need its help – because the existing Puppy House can only house 30 puppies at a time.

What can we accomplish together?
In partnership with eBay Foundation and the eBay Community, Best Friends will build a Puppy Care Center, a place where abused, abandoned, and neglected puppies will learn to trust and interact with different kinds of people and environments, providing puppies with all the tools they need to lead a long, happy life in a loving home. The 3,850-square-foot building will house 14 living areas that can accommodate up to 10 puppies in each area. The puppies, many of whom come to Best Friends with chronic health problems, will also receive state-of-the-art medical care and specialized training. A socialization area, equipped for public viewing, will let prospective families observe the puppies while staff and volunteers train them for their new permanent homes.
