What an uplifting story about the rescue of all those puppies by Best Friends . It is truly outrageous that the federal government does not implement the laws shutting down puppy mills in this country. This practice continues to go on unfortunately and left to great groups like Best Friends to clean up the degradation of these poor dogs. Let us urge the federal government to crack down on this gruesome business and punish the operators appropriately.

Pennsylvania also has a large puppy mill business. I have also read of some of these mills run by the Amish there. I was alerted of this industry by an article in the Best Friends magazine a few years ago that investigated puppy mills in Pennsylvania and other areas. As with other people, some are not what they should be!

I have to agree with you gloriaj....I am disgusted with the thought that the Amish of all people are doing this.....It has totally changed my opinion of them....As of a few mths ago I didn't know they were in this business...I belong to a small animal rescue group in the Bflo NY area and see first hand what happens to these poor animals....There is an Amish community south of Bflo. that I use to love visiting...not any longer.....I visited Best Friends 2 yrs. ago to volunteer....Thank You for all you do...God Bless you all.

What a wonderful story of rescue.
Please everyone - take action. Please email Best Friends definition of a puppy mill and how to choose a dog to every friend you have and have them email it to their friends. We have the possiblity of informing a great number of people what a puppy mill is and not to purchase a pet at a pet store - rescue shelters have hundreds of thousands of adorable dogs.

Thanks a lot for your help

What great news, thanks to the media for coverage. I believe that educating the public is key. If we can shut them down one at a time in no time there will be none. Thank god for people like you!

I want to thank the press for covering this event. People should know about these horrific puppy mills to stop them. And I hope that the local Prosecutor have the owner arrested and prosecuted for animal abuse on several counts. These crimes should not unpunished.

Thank you Best Friends for being there to take those dogs from those horrible people. The Amish are sure not what they used to be. Back in the day they would'nt even use electricity, let alone be involved with this horrible thing. I guess they figure it's time they come into the 21st century. Whatever happened to their belief that every creature in God's earth has a right to life? A horrible sight to let these dogs suffer, just for money. Shame on them.
