Join the “Proc Flock” as it sets sail toward the goal of One Million signatures on, " A Religious Proclamation For Animal Compassion."

by Michelle Buckalew, Best Friends Animal Society

As the New Year begins, Best Friends has put forth a plan to significantly grow the Animals and Religion community and collect signatures to reach the goal of one million signatures on, “A Religious Proclamation for Animal Compassion.”

The newly formed Animals & Religion Volunteer Ambassador program will be key to that success. This outreach team of specially trained volunteers, who will be working to collect one million signatures, has been affectionately dubbed, “The Proc Flock.” Through their outreach efforts, religious and spiritual leaders and citizens in communities around the globe will be inspired to help to accomplish our signature goal.

The Ambassadors will be instrumental in raising awareness that kindness and compassion for animals should be viewed as core spiritual values. No matter how busy you may be in your life, becoming an Animals & Religion Volunteer Ambassador requires only a few hours of your time each month. Best Friends Volunteer Ambassaadors have been at the forefront of much change in the world of Animal Welfare. Won’t you join us and help the animals through your compassion and community connection?

One or more action steps you can take as a Best Friends Animals & Religion Volunteer Ambassador are:

1) Inspire faith organizations to request a visit by a Best Friends staff member or AAR Volunteer Ambassador to talk about the Proclamation and host an information table to collect signatures.

2) Advocate for the animals through the principles laid out in the Proclamation. To read the Proclamation visit http://www.bestfriends.org/signproc .

3) Become a supporter of the proclamation by sharing with your friends, family, friends at your place of worship and your faith leader.

4) Table and collect signatures at religious and spiritual conferences.

5) Make contact with people of faith throughout your state.

6) Research and compile events and activities where Best Friends can collect signatures for the Proclamation.

7) Consider one day a week to include more compassionate choices when it comes to your lifestyle and share that choice with family and friends.

8) Show your enthusiasm and inspiration for the animals by sharing the Proclamation at animal-related events.

9) Visit a minimum of two faith organizations and share Proclamation with fellow people of faith.

10) Help Best Friends make kindness and compassion for animals a fundamental part of religious teachings by setting an example of kindness to animals in all that you do.
