Blount County Rescues and Loudon County Shelters Beyond Capacity-It's Raining Kittens

June 2, 2008 : 6:42 PM
Blount Rescues and Loudon County Shelters at or Beyond Capacity

As with many rescue organizations and shelters across the country, Blount County and surrounding counties are overwhelmed with unwanted animals. In particular this week has been the population of kittens turned in.

At one time, one person turned over 25 cats and kittens. Rescue organizations such as Blount Care are trying desperately to find foster homes and permanent homes to save these precious animals.

Many shelters are so overcrowded that the owner surrendered animals are euthanized immediately as shelters are not required to keep them the mandatory 3 days as is required with strays.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting in Blount County or any of the neighboring counties, your help is desperately needed. Please contact Blount Care at 865-982-7900 or Loudon County Animal Shelter at 865-458-5593.

We in the animal welfare movement have made great strides in the past 20 years -- but sadly it seems that the average pet owner has not. And the animals still suffer greatly.
