Absolute Crisis at Tipton County Animal Control in Brighton, TN 20-30 minutes outside Memphis. Please read the situation below and let us know if you can help. We need volunteers to foster dogs, to contact rescue groups around the country, and to volunteer to drive dogs to local vet clinics. If you are looking to adopt a dog, now is the time!
Here is the link to the shelter:
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/tiptonshelter.html (From Traci's friend Angie) 45 dogs at the Tipton County Animal Shelter in Brighton, TN (just outside of Millington) have been euthanized as of this minute in just 50 hours (since Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.) -- that's nearly one dog per hour. Currently 20 more dogs are on the death list for tomorrow morning.
The employees don't want this to happen but dogs are coming in as fast as they are having to euthanize them. They are very rescue friendly and will do nearly anything (even coming back to the shelter after-hours if necessary) if even one can get a chance to get out of there! They are coming in and being euthanized so fast that the shelter can't even keep the Petfinder site current this week.
One boy named CHACE (a chocolate lab mix boy on their Petfinder site) has been there for nearly three months -- he's so sweet that they keep moving him around and have finally moved him to the one pen outside in the back of the shelter and had to put him in with a yellow Lab mix boy that's been there the same amount of time.

I KNOW MOST OF YOU KNOW THIS ALREADY, BUT THIS IS A VERY RURAL SHELTER WITH VERY FEW CAGES AND NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, NO VET AND NO VACCINES OR MEDICATION OF ANY KIND.
Again, this shelter is very rescue friendly. They'll even drive dogs (if they have more than a couple to take) to vet clinics in Memphis if someone will make the arrangements directly with the vet clinic and take responsibility for the dog before they head out to Memphis.
They'll have to fire up the incinerator first thing in the morning (Thursday) (i know that's gruesome but it's true. SO, IF YOU CAN TAKE EVEN ONE, PLEASE CALL THE SHELTER AT (901) 837-5919 AND LEAVE A MESSAGE ON THE ANSWERING MACHINE at (901) 837-5919 TONIGHT (tell them which dog and that you'll call back first thing in the morning to confirm). They open at 8:30 a.m. but sometimes they'll answer the phone as early as 8:00 a.m.
OR CALL ANGIE PATTON (email is jaaab1@yahoo.com) AND SHE CAN CALL ONE OF THE SHELTER EMPLOYEES AT HOME AND LET THEM KNOW NOT TO PUT THAT PARTICULAR ONE DOWN!
But they don't have room to hold a specific dog long-term. Every one that stays longer means that another one that might have come in more recently has to be put down to make room.
