Amy Oakley has been appointed Executive Director for SPAY/TEXAS, effective immediately.

SPAY/TEXAS provides Texas residents with low-cost spay/neuter resources to reduce pet overpopulation and promote the benefits of spay/neuter for a happy, healthy pet.

“The founders of SPAY/TEXAS are excited for Amy to take on this role,” said SPAY/TEXAS President Carrie Kuehl. “Her passion for spay/neuter as the solution for pet overpopulation is only exceeded by her excellent communication skills to convey this message,”

Oakley has a BA in Journalism from Baylor University and an extensive background in print/radio media, marketing and project management.

Her involvement with animal welfare groups includes animal rescues, humane societies, and feral cat Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). She is a trained disaster response volunteer with the Emergency Animal Rescue Service and the American Humane Association.

As executive director, Oakley will be responsible for promoting SPAY/TEXAS through networking, grant writing, awareness and the SPAY/TEXAS website. She will assist in gaining support from animal welfare groups, veterinarians and clinics that offer low-cost spay/neuter to make that resource easily available to all Texas pet owners.

“SPAY/TEXAS shares my personal vision of reducing pet overpopulation and unnecessary euthanasia by providing low-cost spay/neuter options,” says Oakley. “This is a smart and humane program and I am proud to be a part of it.”

I rescued 2 lab mix puppies on 8-9-08. They were a mess. One thing that needs to be addressed is spaying and neutering them. I called some of the facilities listed on spaytexas.org for help because I have no money to have this done along with all of the other medical needs I have had to address. These facilities were not much cheaper than my own vet. If it is so important to have animals fixed, WHICH I AM A HUGE ADVOCATE OF, how do people like me or people with little to no income afford this??? I need to get them fixed this week, if possible, because Gracie is going to end up pregnant, if she isn't already. WHERE ARE THE LOW COST CLINICS EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT????
