I am a volunteer with Montgomery County Animal Shelter (MCAS) and recently had the opportunity to meet some individuals from The O'Malley's Alley Cat Organization, a 501(c)(3) organization in Nacogdoches, Texas that has set up a Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) program in that area which now envelops two counties. The O'Malley Alley Cat Organization also serves as a resource of information and support for other Texas counties who are moving toward a TNR program.
As most of you know, MCAS has drastically reduced their euthanasia rate in the last couple years and we would like to help this trend continue. One of the leading proponents of 'No-kill' sheltering, Nathan Winograd, specifies a 'Feral Cat TNR Program' as one of the mandatory programs and services needed to reach this goal.
Diana Hensley from O'Malley Alley Cat Organization with Chapter in Nacogdoches and Lufkin will be giving a presentation to us about TNR and animal control's role in TNR. The meeting will be held this Friday, June 27th, from 3:00 - 5:00 PM in the 1st floor conference room at the Mitchell Library in The Woodlands on Ashlane Way.
I hope that all of you will make an effort to attend. Please pass this invite on to your other animal loving friends. I feel that it is our obligation as residents of Montgomery County to assure that we implement any program which will move our local shelter toward a 'no kill' solution. Let's take this first step in learning about TNR programs with the view that we can determine how such a program could be administered in our County in the near future.
Hope to see you there!
