Texan participating June 28-29 in Dogs Deserve Better Chain Off 2008 at the state Capitol.
Provided courtesy of Cheryl Kaminski On June 28, I will participate in the
2008 Dogs Deserve Better Chain Off, to be a voice for all the dogs who are imprisoned on the ends of chains 24/7. I will be chained for a minimum of 24 hours, which is a far cry from the dogs who do not have an end. I have been blessed to get to save several of these chained babies, with the help of others, and to see how they flourish once they learn what freedom and love are. I am honored to be able to participate in the Chain Off.
As part of the event, each participant raises funds through sponsorship. These funds are used by DDB to provide vetting for rescued dogs, education to the public, assistance with fencing for families who would like to free their pets from chains but do not have the financial means, and many other wonderful services including a new rehabilitation training facility for previously chained dogs! Please see a list of what is done with the funds below! Would you please consider sponsoring me in this effort?? No amount is too small, and not one penny will be wasted!
Your donations WILL save lives! They will fund community education and action programs, provide housetraining tips and tools for dogs so that they may live in the home, and fences so that they may safely go outside (when funding permits). We rescue and foster chained dogs that are given up by the owner and find a loving new home for them. We
spay/neuter all rescues, as well as deworm and immunize. Our mission is to continually put the dog's welfare above all else, and strive to in any way possible make his/her life better.
The goals of Dogs Deserve Better comprise the following six principals: Advocate and become a voice for dogs living chained or penned outside; Educate society to evolve a higher ethical and moral standard for the treatment of dogs living under these conditions; Meet with caretakers of dogs chained outside to advocate on behalf of the dogs and discuss other options available to them; Fence yards to improve the quality of life for these dogs; provide low-cost or no-cost house training for dogs whose caretakers wish to bring them into the home; Temporarily foster and find new homes for dogs whose caretakers wish them to have a better life but are unwilling or unable to provide that for them.
Our biggest expenses are:
1. Vetting (which entails much more than spay/neuter of course with embedded collars, heartworm treatments and other serious abuse cases and issues we run into daily) and we provide this service to reps all over the U.S. and Canada as well as to caretakers who are willing to take their dogs off of chains.
2. Fencing, because we fund up to $200 in fencing for people willing to take their dogs off of chains and make them members of the family.
3. Education, brochures, events, tabling events, etc., etc., etc. and education to help change laws
AND we are still working on the "
Rescue and Rehab Center for Chained/Penned Dogs"
Those are the four biggies, but of course there are Awareness Events such as Chain-Off, the
12 Day/12 State Tour, which got a lot of coverage and educated more people than we could have ever hoped to on our own, and other events we do each year, plus billboards and other costs.
I thank you for your donation, which is tax deductible. God bless!!

THREE WAYS YOU CAN HELP:
1.
Sponsor Cheryl and Team Lonestar for Chain Off 2008. As of this posting, she is in third place for the most donations, having already received $1,765. Let’s show the nation that our hearts are as big as the state of Texas. Dallas area resident,
Lisa Kukowski, solicited the most Chain Off funds in 2007 and we can do it again. Please make a pledge today.
2. Support Cheryl during her 24 hours of being chained. You too can join her at the state Capitol in downtown Austin for as long as you would like. That way you too can experience what so many canines are forced to endure for their entire lives. Donations are also being accepted on site.
3. Although Cheryl’s exhibition will take at the Capitol, effective October 1, 2007, it became illegal to tether dogs in the City of Austin. Please also support the
Chain Free Austin organization, which helps to provide funding for fencing for those individuals who are unable to afford it.
